Instructions: This quick assessment can be completed by the Board Chair or Executive committee to identify the strengths and development areas for your organization’s ongoing leadership development processes.

Is your Board able to attract talented and diverse people to join as Board members or committee members?
Does your organization have a well-defined process to utilize the talents of its Board members for committee and/or Board leadership positions?
Are you comfortable with the level of engagement and strategic insight that Board members and the CEO bring to each of the Board’s meetings?
Does your organization’s CEO have the full confidence of the Board, staff and key donors?
Does your organization have a written succession plan for the Board President and CEO positions?
Does your Board and staff leadership team meetings intentionally include action items that build the leadership strength of the organization?
Are you confident that the CEO holds his/her staff accountable to measurable annual objectives that are consistent with the organization’s strategic plan?
Is a process in place to identify and address key concerns from Board members, staff, and important constituents of your organization?
Does the organization produce sufficient measurable successes that they are recognized in their community for their work?
Can your CEO discern the appropriate issues (e.g. financial imperatives and/or pending risks) to bring to the Board for discussion?
